We believe in the universal language of cinema and in the power of independent film.
The increasing popularity and feasibility of low-budget films over the last 16 years has led to a vast increase in the number of filmmakers making independently a very personal cinema. This is a time that has helped cinema in the Balkans blossom as well as the American indie scene.
The International Project Discovery Forum is a pioneer in the promotion of international independent film development & co-production: utilizing the innumerable resources that exist in Los Angeles, we aim to create a bridge between two very different worlds – the American Independent Film and the Greek/ Balkan Independent Film.
Our goal is not only to promote Greek and Balkan films but we would like to see a true and lively exchange of international and American cinema. We provide a venue where not only dialogue is encouraged but actual aspirational, creative and productive collaborations are formed.
YOU SHOULD SUBMIT IF YOU
…are developing an independent, fiction, feature film of minimum estimated length of 80 minutes
…have a full treatment or full script in place
…with a potential for international interest or co-productions
We are looking for:
…filmmakers from the following countries: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, FYROM, Greece, Israel, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, Romania, Slovenia
…OR international filmmakers whose story takes place in one of the countries above

- One to two pages synopsis
- One page director’s statement
- 8 -12 pages treatment
- Complete screenplay (Advised at this stage, REQUIRED IF SELECTED BY MAY 8TH)
- Look-book (Including visual references, locations, proposed cast)
- One page production and financing plan (Including stage of the project, target audience, financing plan, timeline, distribution plans)

The LAGFF INTERNATIONAL PROJECT DISCOVERY FORUM will be presented as the industry program of LAGFF 2017, June 7th – 11th, in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
The Forum is a four-day pitching and development workshop that includes script feedback, pitching training, roundtables & workshops, and culminates with the presentation of the selected feature film projects to invited industry professionals such as producers, financiers, distributors, development professionals. The panelists will critically respond to each project’s 10-minute, in-person presentation by the filmmakers themselves. After the presentations, the filmmakers will have one-on-one meetings with the panelists to further discuss production strategies and get further feedback.
One of the projects will be selected as the Aegean Award winner, announced during the Closing Night Ceremony.
The Aegean Award winner will receive the following:
- The Aegean Award of $1,000
- For qualifying European projects only: MFI SCHOLARSHIP for the 2016 MEDITERRANEAN FILM INSTITUTE Film2Screen Workshop (http://www.mfi.gr)
*Note: Free participation includes entrance to the program, meals and accommodation but not travel expenses.
If the project is made into a film, the filmmakers must include LAGFF’s and the Forum Sponsor logo (TBA) in the film’s credits and “This film was developed as part of the LAGFF International Project Discovery Forum” title card.
LAGFF will cover part of the travel expenses and offer accommodation arrangements through its Help-A-Filmmaker program.
The filmmakers will be notified via email by the end of April 2017.
