LOS ANGELES GREEK FILM FESTIVAL TO SCREEN ELIA KAZAN’S CLASSIC
“MAN ON A TIGHTROPE” APRIL 20

SUBMISSIONS FOR “PROJECT DISCOVERY FORUM” COMPETITION NOW OPEN

Los Angeles, CA (March 25, 2013) – As a prelude to its exciting 2013 Festival Season, the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival is hosting a special screening of Elia Kazan’s circus drama MAN ON A TIGHTROPE Saturday, April 20th, 6:00 PM at the 20th Century Fox Studio’s – The Little Theatre.

Elia Kazan directed this drama inspired by a true story. The film is about Karel Cernik (Fredric March), the leader of a troupe of Czechoslovakian circus performers. When the country falls under communist rule, Cernik finds that he is no longer free to operate his circus as he sees fit. He decides that he can take no more and begins making plans to escape to Bavaria during an upcoming tour. Cernik’s plans hit a snag, however, when he learns that one of his performers is a spy for the Czech communists, working in collusion with government factotum Fesker (Adolphe Menjou). The Birnbach Circus troupe, along with a variety of other European carnival performers, appear as themselves in the film, lending the performances a keen authenticity. The screening of MAN ON A TIGHTROPE is part of this year’s Festival’s Tribute to Elia Kazan, which will include more events during the Festival.

In addition, to the advance screening, LAGFF is also announcing the inclusion of its PROJECT DISCOVERY FORUM competition in this year’s festival, sponsored by Pabst Brewing Company and the Metropoulos Family. The Forum consists of the presentation of 5 – feature fiction film projects, selected from all the submissions. A professional panel will critique and judge each project’s 10-minute, in-person presentation by the filmmakers themselves. The winning project will receive the $1,000 Aegean Award – sponsored by the Metropoulos Family.

Submissions for Project Discovery are now open through April 20, 2013, to all filmmakers of Greek and Balkan descent, as well as international filmmakers who wish to make a film in Greece or with a Greek theme. More information may be found online at https://demo.lagff.org.The LAGFF PROJECT DISCOVERY FORUM will be presented as an industry program within the seventh edition of Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, which will run June 6-9 at the Writers Guild Theatre (135 So.
